I frequently get asked why I am so interested in the chesmistry and the science behind cosmetics and other products that society tends to lavish on thier faces in the unending battle to look younger and prettier. And my answer is that aside from the complete fascination of it all, it is a massive industry.

In 2002 alone, the global market for skincare and colour cosmetics exceeded 53 billion dollars, and any industry that big there is a lot of people coming behind it trying to find a newer, better, and cheaper way of creating these products by finding new and exotic ways and ingredients. There are more then 10, 000 raw materials currently being used in the creation of cosmetics today, and most of them are things that you would never expect. And if you did, you probably wouldn’t be putting them on your skin so freely!
